Day 2 – 02/22/2025

Day 2 – 02/22/2025

We made it to Fort Lauderdale today!

Today did not quite go as we expected it to. When we left at 8:30am this morning, we got out of the inlet but when we went to raise the mainsail, there was a problem. We talked about motoring, but in the end, we turned around, went back to the inlet, and fixed the main sail, and then got back out around 9:30am.

The seas were forecast to be 4ft with 10 second periods with winds at 20knots but steadily decreasing as the day went on. I think the wind forecast sounds about right, but the seas seemed a bit more than 4 ft today and it definitely was not 10 second periods, but more like 5 seconds. We felt like we were in a washing machine all day. Both of us wound up taking Bonine for motion sickness. I finally started feeling better, but I think Marcus was still struggling with queasiness for much of the day. We were expecting to arrive in Fort Lauderdale around 5pm but even with the hour delay, we arrived at our destination at 4:30pm.

We were so thankful to arrive, and even though today did not go as expected, we were thankful to be out sailing and having an adventure. For me, that was the first time in bigger seas than I had previously been in, and I felt like both of us handled the unexpected really well today.

It is now 7:30p and Marcus is lights out, not having slept well last night. For me, you know you are getting old, when you look at your watch to make sure it’s 9pm before going to bed. 😀
